Falls Road Animal Hospital = Morons

  • Aug. 9th, 2006 at 2:36 PM
kitten
This past weekend I boarded Mogel at Falls Road Animal Hospital's boarding section, so he could get his medicine. Not only did they fail to give it to him daily, but they also misread his fucking chart and gave him a distemper shot.

When I pointed this out to them they claimed to take it off the bill, but then they had not and I got a bill today. So I had to talk to three people, the third of which called my vet to confirm that yes he had already gotten it, and finally he said they had taken it off.

I hear they are supposed to be the best hospital in the area, but don't ever use their boarding facilities. Also, none of them know how to use the computer and none of them seemed to give a crap about the animals beyond the "just doing my job" mode. You could have the best vet in the universe, but if the office staff is a bunch of incompetent tools, that's not great P.R.

Mogel *cried* the worst I've ever heard on the way home on Monday.

Conversely, use these people:

Not only are they cheaper, but they genuinely love the cats, and the cats can go outside and they pipe music into the kennels and there are no crazy constantly barking dogs.

Falls Road Animal Hospital is "good" only for severe emergencies and it's the closest vet you can get to.

I was in the store, buying cat food, and I overheard them trying to fix a situation where there pet pick up driver was 4 hours late to pick up a dog for boarding, (said he was lost) thus making the owner miss his flight.

Ok then, I'm not crazy.

That is really really bad.

4 hours is not lost...unless you count being high as lost.

i've pretty much heard the same thing.
they have a good pet ER, for things that people in many parts of the rest of the world can't get treatment for. but other than that, they are kinda
elitist dicks, and thier staff are apethetic.
We used to use them, when we lived in hamden, and we weren't that impressed.
for a vet, we use aardmore, on loch raven, becuase they are close, care about the animal, have pretty good prices, and you can say thier name like a pirate..
ARRRRRRRdmore.

as for boarding, if we go out of town, (like i am this weekend),
we prefer to have freinds drop by to feed and love them.

i kinda a agree with cat..
if a driver is that late...they went somewhere , got high, and then took a nap..

I've heard some pretty bad stuff about Fallas Road from a friend who does dog rescue, including one where they "lost" a cat...it just vanished into thin air, never found inside or outside of the building, alive or dead...

Reading that makes me very upset. I should feel glad that Mogel only went through what he did.

My vet might give me a lecture about the place if she knows about it. But no lecture is necessary. I will *never* go there again. In an emergency there's always the Catonsville emergency vet place.

yeah, catonsville was the place that the same friend suggested going if energency vet care was needed. I've also heard that Light Street animal hospital is pretty good, and that they're one of those places where they care more about taking care of the animals than about getting money out of people, and I've talked to a few people who saiod that they bent over backwartds making arrangements for people who didn't have th money to pay for emergencyvet care up front.

Mea had to take her cat to a vet back in the wintertime because she fell from the third floor down to the first floor and falls road is the closest place to us, she went there and everyhting was ok then, but i've heard too many other stories...if you check out the rant board on craigslist, there's usually a couple of posts a week with people complaining about things that go wrong there.

hey! crazy barking dogs is why they invented pepper spray and stun guns! Pepper spray and electrocute the MORONS supposidly taking care of the dogs so badly that they are barking like nuts. The good thing about the animal hospital that my mom takes her cat to, is that they will refuse to board any animals that they have problems with in the past. Still their pretty idiotic at the front desk, which is why I just end up checking in on the cat every day if my mom goes on vacation.. much easier.

GAH!! At least Mogel didn't suffer too many side effects from not taking the medicine? Lord, those incompetent morons should be... well, they should have something nasty done to them at least.

I used to work there. Both in the hospital itself as well as the boarding facilities. It was the only job I ever officially quit because of the conditions. I used to try to convince myself that they were practicing good medicine but the logic just doesn't hold up. I'm so sorry you had to go through all that.

Catonsville ER is wonderful but only take your pet there for true emergencies as they are a tad pricey. If you are up for a drive, Fallston Veterinary Clinic up on Bel Air Road is top notch. Wonderful people, wonderful practice, wonderful boarding. Their prices are reasonable but again, it's a drive. Expensive for exotics but there are two board certified vets there so you truly pay for their experience. Paradise in Catonsville is also good. They just renovated not too long ago...

As for boarding, besides Fallston, there is a pet spa at the Banfield off of Snowden River Parkway in Columbia. Big bucks but REALLY nice. And if you want to get a true idea of the boarding facilities of any place, drop by between 11 and 3 in the afternoon. This should be after the morning cleaning/feeding and before the evening checks. Gives you a glimpse of how often they really do check on the animals.

Sorry for posting anonymously but I am a current senior vet student and don't want to have this post bite me in the butt for speaking poorly of a fellow veterinary facility.

I too used to work at Falls Road in the kennel...left there in 2001. I must agree, the conditions when I was there were *terrible*. The kennel advertised at that time that the animals were taken out for "walks" (yea right...they were put in outside runs) twice a day...NOT!! Those animals were taken outside in the mornings while their cages/runs were cleaned and fresh food/water was given. Once brought back inside, they sat in their cages/runs UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING !! But yet the owners were told they went outside several times a day...this outraged me to see these animals sitting there all day long, depressed, crying, pacing, etc. Some dogs did get to go outside more often...if their owners paid EXTRA for walks, which were supposed to be 15 minute walks...that was held up depending on the staff at the time...some only got 5 minute walks if they had a lazy employee walking them. Once I was made Asst. Kennel Mgr. I imposed a new policy that the dogs are to be taken outside 3 times a day and their cages cleaned if needed. To this day, this policy has been enforced and I am very proud of my accomplishment! Many of the kennel employees at the time were outraged at this new policy...of course, it meant more work on their part. Well my opinion on that is that they should not have been working there then if the animal's best interests weren't their priority. As for the hospital itself...I do not go there and do not recommend it. After what I witnessed there as an employee seeing the goings ons...I don't know how they could be voted Baltimore's Best. Someone needs to get their foot on the inside before making this decision.

I worked at FRAH for 3 years and never had to take a survey for the Baltimore paper.

Falls Road Animal Hospital
I am so glad there are other people out there that understand how bad Falls Road Animal Hospital is.. I took my rabbit there years ago and it had to be put down do to ovarian cancer.. They wanted to do exploratory surgery.. I've heard other horror stories.. While at my vets a guy came in saying he just came from Falls Road and they wouldn't release is dog to him unless he paid thousands of dollars.. Thats all I heard though.. If an ER is needed for your animal I strongly suggest the Pet ER on Cromwell Bridge Road.. They are amazing.. I asked if they could be our regular vet :)..

Re: Falls Road Animal Hospital
I used to work for FRAH. and I am glad I found this page to at least say something of this place. I worked there for a while and loved my job, loved the people I worked with..but I left due to the completely ASSHOLE behavior of Dr. Hammond. The techs do everything there and work very hard (along with some pretty amazing vets). Hammond doesnt even come into the hospital anymore, but it is SO sad that when he does, his employees run away from him, pretend to leave to do work even if there isnt any - because he screams and yells and goes on major powertrips. I couldnt stand for being spoken to like this.. and I wish others didnt as well. FRAH is a great hospital, but Hammond is a tool who needs to get a life and get off of his power trips- and they wonder why turnover is so great there..besides due to the crappy pay. Things are not handled right there and he doesnt even have the decency to talk with his employees as a mature adult would. I hope Hammond knows how horrible he makes people feel.. and hes lucky to have such an amazing crew of REAL doctors and techs.
